NMU volleyball: Wildcats host Findlay in GLIAC quarterfinals Wednesday

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team will host Findlay at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a GLIAC quarterfinal match at Vandament Arena in Marquette.

The Wildcats, at 22-9 overall, finished in a three-way tie for second overall in the GLIAC during the regular season with a 15-3 conference record. South Division champion Ashland received the No. 2 seed in the tournament while the ‘Cats were seeded third over Ferris State because of NMU’s three-set sweep of the Bulldogs on Nov. 2 in Marquette in the two school’s lone meeting this season.

Findlay is the No. 6 seed at 11-7 in the GLIAC having finished second in the South behind Ashland.

Other quarterfinal matches on Wednesday include No. 8 Saginaw Valley State at No. 1 Grand Valley State; No. 7 Hillsdale at No. 2 Ashland; and No. 5 Northwood at No. 3 Ferris State.

Wednesday’s winners will play in the semifinals and final on Saturday and Sunday at the home of the highest remaining seed.

The Wildcats, who closed the regular season winning five of their last six games, are led by senior Lina Lopes in kills (359), sophomore Alex Berger in digs (393) and senior Kellisha Harley in assists (1,121).
