Leander Baumann

GWINN, MI. – Leander M. “Tiger” Baumann, 93 years of age, entered eternal life November 4, 2013.

Tiger was born January 18, 1920 to Michael and Ann Baumann in Marathon, Wisconsin and graduated from Marathon High School.

He entered the Army Air Corps in October 1940, served in WWII, the Korean Conflict and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He retired from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant In 1962.

Following his military career he worked for the Base Exchange Service at KI Sawyer AFB.

After fully retiring, Tiger enjoyed pulling his Airstream travel trailer initially to Florida and later to Texas to spend the winter months.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Erla W. “Jackie” Baumann; daughter, Bonita L, Purvis and her husband Willie; sons, Michael J. Baumann, Calvin L. Baumann and his wife, Kimberly; also four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 13th at 12 Noon in St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Allen Mott officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Gwinn Cemetery.
