John J. Racine
MARQUETTE, MI. – John Joseph Racine (JR) 69, of Marquette, MI, passed away on November 4th, 2013 at his home in Harvey.
John was born on November 19th 1943 to Ellsworth and Leona (DeRocher) Racine. John married Randi W. Olsen on February 6th, 1967. John grew up in Marquette, and graduated from Marquette High School, going on to complete three years of college at Northern Michigan University.
After completing his schooling at NMU, John decided to join the Marquette Fire Department, which he retired from on May 1st, 1994. After retirement, John spent many years of his free time and employed at the YMCA. John was very happy and made many friends and memories which he carried on, even after his retirement in early 2012.
John liked many sports from playing to coaching softball, in which he loved his softball girls; also John was an exceptional golfer, and spent his happiest times on the golf course. John was a member of the National Ski Patrol, and served as a ski instructor at Cliffs Ridge, and was also a Director at Brule Mountain Ski School.
John is survived by his son Christopher John Racine; his daughters Bridget Anne (Mike) Finn, and Mary Margaret (Dickey Wollum) Racine; grandsons Donny and Brett Houle, and granddaughter Joey Bourg; a sister Lois Jean (Dennis) Paquet; nephews Steven, Tim, and David Paquet and Pat and Mike Lakenen; a close special friend Jeanie Seid; and many great-nieces and nephews.
We would like to include his very good buddies as honorary pallbearers Mike Black, Bob Devine, Al Hauptman, and Wayne Thompson.
John was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Mary Sharon Lynn (Racine) Lakenen, and brother in law William Gerald Lakenen.
Friends are welcome to join family and pay their respects on Saturday, November 9th, from 1-3 PM at the American Legion of Marquette.
