NMU soccer: Wildcats season ends in GLIAC quarterfinals with 1-0 loss at Ashland
ASHLAND, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University soccer team’s return to the GLIAC tournament was short lived as the sixth-seeded Wildcats fell 1-0 to No. 3 Ashland in the league quarterfinals on Tuesday in Ashland, Ohio.
The Eagles’ Haley Frick recorded the lone goal in the 22nd minute on a header that came off a rebound.
Ashland outshot NMU 9-2 with both of the Wildcats shots landing on the Eagles’ goal. Northern freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Simmons stopped three of the four shots Ashland put on goal.
Northern, which finished this season 5-10-3 overall and 5-5-3 in the GLIAC, missed the tournament last year after going 4-13-0 overall and 3-10-0 in the GLIAC. It was the only season since the GLIAC tournament began in 2008 that NMU was not a participant.
