Prep volleyball: Gwinn lands six on All-Mid-Peninsula Conference teams

NEGAUNEE – Led by two selections from league champion Gwinn, area schools claimed five of the six spots on the All-Mid-Peninsula Conference volleyball first team announced on Thursday.

Modeltowners seniors Katie Aho, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, and Bella Wedig, a 5-7 right-side hitter, earned those top honors.

They were joined by senior outside hitter Rosalie Anderson of league runner-up Negaunee, junior hitter Jessica Spencer of Ishpeming, 5-9 junior outside hitter Maggie Morrison of Manistique, and junior Marti Pirkola of Iron Mountain.

Gwinn also had two players named to the second team in 6-3 senior middle blocker Shelby Talsma and 5-7 senior setter Kaylee Arnsparger.

Accompanying them are senior setter Jayda Johnson of Negaunee, 5-7 senior setter Vanessa McNamara of Manistique, junior Alena Herman of IM and senior middle hitter Leah Mattson of Norway.

Westwood got a representative on the honorable mention list, 5-4 senior Alexis Nelson, and was joined by 5-9 senior middle blocker Chelsea Moton of Gwinn, senior right-side hitter Katie Lambert of Negaunee, senior Mollie Pruett of Ishpeming, senior setter Lexi Negro of Norway and junior Cassie Feira of IM.

The All-M-PC Defensive Team, which didn’t include any of the previously mentioned players, was made up of 5-2 junior libero Ashley Childs of Gwinn, junior middle hitter Adena Anderson of Negaunee, 5-4 senior Elizabeth Dauphinais-VanBuren of Westwood, 5-4 senior libero Morgan Kangas of Manistique, senior Kristen Gendron of IM and junior libero Jacey Bal of Norway.
