Pearl (Niemi) Pelto
MARQUETTE, MI. – Pearl (Niemi) Pelto, 91, of Marquette passed away Monday afternoon October 27, 2013, at Norlite Nursing Center of Marquette, where she had been a resident since August of 2010.
Pearl was born July 20, 1922 in Champion, Michigan and had resided in Marquette most of her life. She married her husband Eino on July 5, 1944, and raised two children.
She worked in the medical profession as a nurse’s aide at St. Luke’s Hospital prior to getting married and then as a billing clerk and office manager for Marquette Internal Medicine prior to retiring.
Pearl was a member of St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Marquette, where she served a few years as a Sunday school teacher.
Pearl is survived by a son Richard (Janet) Pelto of North Port, FL; a daughter Linda (Norman) Lind of Ishpeming, MI; grandchildren Keri (Steve) Sabatini of Traverse City, MI; Jennifer (Robert) Meno and Erik (Rachel) Lind of Anchorage, AK; three great grandchildren, Payton, Brynn, and Kaeli Meno; a brother Wayne (Erica) Niemi of Youngstown, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Viljo and Hedvig Helena Niemi, husband Eino, grandchildren Kristine and Rick Pelto, and several siblings.
Friends may call at St. Marks Lutheran Church on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
Funeral services will be held in the church on Friday at 11:00 am with Rev. William Payne officiating.
A private burial will take place in Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Mark’s Lutheran Church or Norlite Nursing Center in Pearl’s memory.
