NMU soccer: Wildcats honored by GLIAC after win over SVSU

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team improved to 4-1-1 in the GLIAC and 4-6-1 overall with a 4-1 victory on Sunday over Saginaw Valley State at the NMU Soccer Field in Marquette.

Wildcats junior Nicole Musi scored her first three goals of the season against SVSU with her first score coming in the 37th minute, second finding the net in the 39th minute via an assist by junior Kim Rietveld and the third goal finding its way to the scoreboard in the 61st minute.

NMU freshman Paula Hafner, who was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, recorded her sixth goal of the season in the 47th minute with an assist from freshman Wynona Maravilla.

Hafner, who has points in seven-straight games, had the game-winner for NMU in overtime on Friday against Northwood. She leads the GLIAC in points with 17 and assists with five. Her six goals ranks second.

The Wildcats travel to Ohio for a pair of GLIAC games this weekend against Ohio Dominican on Friday and Ashland on Sunday.
