County board to set salaries
MARQUETTE – The Marquette County Board is scheduled to set salaries Tuesday for county officers for the coming year as part of its annual meeting.
The meeting – which will include a Truth in Taxation hearing – will be at 6 p.m. in Room 231 of the Henry Skewis Annex to the Marquette County Courthouse in Marquette.
County Finance Manager Sue Vercoe said in a memo to the board the basic premise behind the Truth in Taxation legislation is that a local unit of government should not have increased revenue from increased property values on existing property without holding a public hearing.
The salaries scheduled to be set Tuesday are for county offices including commissioners; board chairman; the county share of probate, circuit and district court judges; prosecuting attorney; sheriff; clerk; treasurer; register of deeds; drain commissioner; and mine inspector.
Additional agenda items include appointments to the board of canvassers and appointments to Marquette County’s Sands Aquifer and lake levels study group.
