NMU cross country: Wildcats place fifth at Wisconsin-Parkside
MARQUETTE – Behind sophomore Megan Edic, the Northern Michigan University women’s cross country squad placed fifth out of 25 teams at the 27th Annual Lucian Rosa Invite at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
The Wildcats were the second Division II team, behind third place Hillsdale, NMU defeated Ferris State, UW-Parkside, Lewis and Minnesota-Duluth, along with four Division I teams.
Edic paced the Wildcats with a 14th-place finish. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 18:23.5.
Teammate and sophomore Mary Kate Cirelli (18:30.2) finished seven seconds back in 22nd.
“We ran a very good and smart race today,” NMU coach Jenny Ryan said. “Almost every runner on the team ran their fastest time ever.”
Freshman Christian Toogood (38th), junior Olivia Howard (46th) and junior Larissa Halonen (47th) also finished in the top 50 for the Wildcats.
NMU will host its only home meet of the year at 4 p.m. Friday at the NMU Golf Course.
