Autumn Classic, Fall Fest set for today

ISHPEMING – The fifth annual Cliffs Autumn Classic 5K and 10K cross-country run was set to kick off at 10 a.m. today at the Suicide Hill Ski Bowl between Ishpeming and Negaunee.

Registration runs until 9:30 a.m. Registration for either race is $15 for adults and $10 for students.

Top finishers will receive awards, and random prizes will be given to all participants.

The trail is a 5K loop of some challenging terrain of moderate difficulty on old cross-country ski trails near Suicide Hill. Runners will complete two laps of the course in the 10k run.

Also Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. the Ishpeming Ski Club will host the inaugural Fall Fest, with kids games, hay rides and ski jumping demonstrations. The festival will feature a “pumpkin roll” down the 90-meter ski jump landing hill.

Proceeds will go to aid the development of the Suicide Hill Ski Bowl facilities.
