‘Young at Heart’ at DocuMonday

MARQUETTE -DocuMonday presents the film Young@Heart” at 7 p.m. Oct. 7, in the Peter White Public Library Community Room, Marquette.

This documentary chronicles the story of a New England senior citizens chorus that has delighted audiences worldwide with their covers of songs by everyone from James Brown to The Clash to Coldplay, and is led by a strict musical director. What emerges is a funny and unexpectedly moving testament to friendship, creative inspiration, and reaching beyond expectations. “Young@Heart” was released in 2007, is rated PG and runs for 107 minutes.

CUPPAD?assists with minigrants

MARQUETTE – Grant money is available through the CUPPAD Regional Commission to assist in funding local art minigrants. In partnership with the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA), the CUPPAD Regional Commission is the regional regranting agency for the Central Upper Peninsula.

There are two components to the Minigrant Program for FY14: Art Project grants and Professional and Organizational Development grants. Art project grants provide up to $4,000 for locally developed, high quality arts and cultural projects. A 1:1 cash/in-kind match is required. Applicants are limited to non-profit organizations, schools, colleges/universities and municipalities.

Professional and Organizational Development grants provide up to $1,500 to assist arts and cultural organizations and administrators, and professional artists with opportunities that specifically improve their business management and/or bring the artist or the arts organization to another level artistically. These grants can be used to attend conferences, workshops, seminars or to hire short-term consultants.

Applicants to the Minigrant Program must use the MCACA online application at mcaca.egrant.net. Applications must be submitted online by Oct. 15, 2013. Grant activity must take place between Jan. 1, 2014 and Sept. 30, 2014.

Free Medicare seminar Oct. 15

ISHPEMING – In partnership with the Ishpeming Senior Center, UPCAP’s Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) is offering a free seminar to help folks new to Medicare understand their benefits and choices from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 15, in the Ishpeming Senior Center, Ishpeming.

There is no charge to attend this informational event and a helpful workbook will be provided to each participant.
