Florence ‘Beal’ (Swenor) Gezella
GREEN BAY, WI. – Florence “Beal” (Swenor) Gezella, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, September 29, 2013 at a local nursing home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on July 27, 1925 in Marquette, MI, daughter of the late Adolph ‘Doc’ and Alice (Vadnais) Swenor. Florence met the love of her life, Adolph Gezella, while he was working in Marquette, MI. They were married on August 26, 1950 in Marquette, MI and traveled to Green Bay, WI for their wedding reception that night. They made Green Bay their home. She tended bar for over 50 years, many of those years at Cropsey’s on State. Flo loved “shooting the breeze” with her customers. She also enjoyed shooting darts for many years, even though they normally ended up in last place. She always looked forward to cooking a big meal on Sundays for the whole family, which she enjoyed.
Florence is survived by her daughters Mary Gezella; Cheryl Schoen (fianc Donald Johnson, Jr.), her daughters Michelle (John) Heney, and Nicole (Jeff) Cork; and son Mark (Nancy) Gezella, their sons Mark Allen and Anthony; great-grandchildren Jeffrey Jr., Latavia and Jamall Cork; sisters Shirley Koepp, Elizabeth (Arthur) Belanger, Joyce (James) Constance, Mary (Oscar) Haglund, and Lois (Marvin) Gibson brothers Robert (Margaret) Swenor, all of Marquette, MI, and Donald (Elizabeth) Swenor of Ishpeming, MI; sister-in-law Betty Swenor of Harvey, MI, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is further survived by sister-in-law Elaine Gezella of Green Bay, WI.
In addition to her husband, parents, and mother and father-in-law Leo and Julia (Piontek) Gezella, she was preceded in death by one stillborn child, sister Nancy Swenor, brother William (Russell) Swenor, sister and brother-in-law Rosemary (Rudolph ‘Mike’) Walin, brothers and sisters-in-law Louis and Mary Ann Swenor, James and Betty Lou Swenor, brother-in-law Howard Koepp; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Agnes (Bill) Goral, John (Emily) Gezella, Ed (Ruth) Gezella, Joseph (Margaret) Gezella, Frances (Michael) Peters, Chester Gezella, Ceil (Richard) Schmechel, Eleanor (Paul) Coenen, Robert (Jacky) Gezella, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Parish Wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, October 4, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1224 12th Avenue from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
