RTI chief: Company plans to stay in community
MARQUETTE – RTI Surgical Inc., President and chief executive officer Brian Hutchison said Thursday the company has plans to grow in the community and be a good corporate citizen as well.
This summer, RTI Biologics acquired Pioneer Surgical Technology, with the new combined company named RTI Surgical. The company will continue to be a surgical implant company manufacturing orthopedic and biological implant products for surgeons and patients.
RTI is headquartered in Alachua, Fla. Its implants are used in general surgery, sports medicine, spine, orthopedic, trauma and cardiothoracic procedures worldwide.
Hutchison met with community leaders Thursday at a breakfast at RTI Surgical to introduce the company to the area. Hutchison said the nuts and bolts of RTI Surgical will remain at 375 River Park Circle in Marquette.
The combined company, he pointed out, also will combine biologics from the company’s Florida headquarters with the metal and plastic components made in Marquette.
RTI Surgical being a public company, he said, will give it advantages because it can go to the public market for funding.
“We have access to capital different from what Pioneer did,” Hutchison said.
RTI Surgical will be an active community member, Hutchison said, and will conduct a local United Way campaign and contribute to other area organizations.
“We want our employees to be part of the community, and the community to feel this company is a good company,” Hutchison said.
Hutchison said locally RTI has 215 employees, a number he expects to increase as the company grows.
“We’re here for the long term,” he said.
