Thomas ‘Tom’ W. Dupras
ISHPEMING, MI. – Thomas “Tom” W. Dupras, age 78, of Ishpeming, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 while in the care of his loving family and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice, after a courageous ten-year battle with cancer.
Tom was born November 29, 1934 in Marquette, the son of the late James A. and Ellen M. (Anderson) Dupras. He was a 1953 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School, attended St. Thomas University, Northern Michigan University, and graduated from the University of Michigan, College of Pharmacy in 1959.
He owned and operated Johnson Drugs of Ishpeming, serving the community’s needs as a pharmacist and friend for forty nine years. Together with his wife Joyce he also owned and operated The Giving Tree Cards and Gifts and Parties Unlimited in downtown Ishpeming.
He was a member of the TruNorth Federal Credit Union (formerly the Ishpeming Community Federal Credit Union) where he served on the Board of Directors for 25 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Ishpeming Elks Lodge #447, the League of Finnish American Societies, and the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming.
Tom is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce (Hill) Dupras of Ishpeming, three daughters Denise Dupras (Sheri Miller) of Rochester, MN, Jodi (Brian) Fedeson of Belmont, MI and Kristen (Kirk) Linna of Conway, AR, and nine grandchildren Derek, Erin, Renee, Amy and Courtney Fedeson and Zachary, Abbie, Jacob and Matthew Linna. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Helen Dupras of Marquette, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ron and Ruth Hill of Marquette, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Margaret (Ernest) Paquette and Marcella (Tom) Musolf, and six brothers Howard, Richard (Dorothy), Clarence (Margherita), Robert “Bob”, Paul and Kenneth “Parnell” Dupras.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church beginning at 10:00am until the time of the Mass. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom’s grandchildren.
