Prep football: Ishpeming remains unanimous No. 1 in state AP poll

MARQUETTE – The Ishpeming Hematites remain a unanimous No. 1 in the Michigan Associated Press Division 7 prep football poll this week, but once again sit No. 2 behind Menominee in the latest UPSSA Big Five poll.

Menominee (4-0) is No. 1 in the U.P. for the second-straight week, garnering three first-place votes to Ishpeming’s two out of the five-member UPSSA panel. Ishpeming (4-0) nabbed all five first-place votes in the AP poll.

The Mining Journal does not vote in either poll.

Negaunee (4-0) is No. 4 behind No. 3 Kingsford (4-0) in the UPSSA poll with West Iron County (4-0 sitting fifth).

The Miners are also ranked No. 7 in the state by the AP in Division 6, while in Division 5,

Kingsford is No. 3 and Menominee is No. 4. The Flivvers and Maroons will play Friday in a possible GNC title bout in Menominee.

In the UPSSA Little Five poll, Forest Park (4-0) is No. 1 with three first-place votes and North Dickinson (4-0) is No. 2 with two first-place votes.

In the AP poll, North Dickinson is No. 5 and Forest Park sits No. 6 with St. Ignace No. 10.
