ISHPEMING – Several personnel changes are scheduled to be discussed at this evening’s Ishpeming school board meeting, several of which are centered around sports.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Ishpeming Middle/High School Library.

The school board is expected to approve the hiring of an athletic director and two assistant junior varsity football coach slots, as well as a special education aide and class advisors, and accept the resignation of the sophomore class advisor, Ishpeming Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dan Paul said.

The school board will also discuss minor changes to high school class sessions and schedules.

“There’s going to be some changes here and there as far as the high school area,” Paul said.

Paul said that Brian Sarvello – director of career and technical education, curriculum and assessment data with the Marquette-Alger Regional Education Service Agency and former Ishpeming High School principal – learned about a program offered in schools out west that combined geometry and construction into one class.

The Ishpeming district is offering a pilot course this fall.
