Board to consider millage rates

ISHPEMING – The NICE school board is scheduled to set the district’s millage rate for the 2013-14 school year this evening’s meeting.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Westwood High School Library.

NICE Community Schools Superintendent Bryan DeAugustine said taxpayers will pay a little less this year than they’ve paid in the past, as NICE has reduced its millage by refinancing its debt retirement as well as rolling back the millage as part of the Headlee Amendment.

DeAugustine said the district’s operating fund was rolled back about 0.1 mills and the debt retirement fund was rolled back about 0.15 mills, while the sinking fund millage stayed roughly the same.

The school district held a Truth in Taxation hearing in Auguston the new millage rates. DeAugustine said he expects the new millage rates to be approved by the board at this evening’s meeting.
