Magnusson gets prize for speech
NEWBERRY?- Nathan Magnusson, son of Keith and Jennifer Magnusson, recently competed in the God, Flag & Country Oratory Competition sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Nathan is in the 8th grade of Newberry Middle School.
The purpose of the competition is to instill in young people a deeper understanding of God, Flag and Country in everyone’s lives and to make them aware of their heritage and to make it more meaningful to them in the world today. Each participant is required to speak for no more than three minutes on any or all three titles in the program. Nathan chose to speak on the flag.
Nathan competed locally at Newberry’s John T. Bouchard 3701 Fraternal Order of the Eagles and at the State Convention in Midland to earn him a spot at the competition in Reno, Nevada. Nathan traveled to Reno with his father, Keith, and represented the State of Michigan at the Fraternal Order of Eagles’ International Convention. Nathan competed against students his age from numerous other states.
After giving his speech in front of the judges and approximately 200 Eagles’ members, Nathan was awarded 1st place in his age group. His prize for winning was a trophy, a cash prize, and the opportunity to give his speech at the opening ceremonies of the convention in front of approximately 1,500 people.
