MARQUETTE, MI – Martin Weist, age 90, of Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Facility, in the loving care of his family and caregivers of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Martin was born in Lomnitz, Germany, on October 31, 1922, a son of Wilhelm and Anna (Kliem) Weist. and was raised in Germany. He married Katharina “Karin” Geigl in 1946, with the couple moving to the United States in 1952. For many years, Martin was employed as a tool and die maker foreman with National Standard Company, retiring in 1985. He and Karin had been Marquette residents for the past 17 years, and she preceded him in death on August 20. In his spare time he enjoyed playing bridge in the local bridge clubs and always had the ability to help others when it came to fixing things.
Survivors include his daughter, Dagmar (Bob) Raica of Marquette; a son, Helmut Weist of West Lafayette, IN; five grandchildren, Chris Prout of San Diego, CA, Andrew Prout of Washington, DC, Maya Weist, Ariel Weist, and Sasha Weist all of Lafayette, IN; and a sister, Johanna Opitz of Germany.
Honoring Martin’s request, private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association in Martin’s name.
