Firefighter training under way at city house

MARQUETTE – The Marquette City Fire Department is conducting fire training operations at a house on West Michigan Street.
The structure at 143 W. Michigan St. will not be burned, but the training will generate smoke that could be heavy at times.
The training has been taking place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. the past three days, and additional training sessions are slated for next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The building was purchased recently by Dave Manson and Andy Langlois, owners of Marquette’s Blackrocks Brewery, which is located next door.
Langlois said they plan to demolish the house and use the space for parking, a move that could allow Manson and Langlois to expand operations to the second floor of their brewery at 424 N. Third St.
City fire officials warn that fire operations and equipment can be dangerous to bystanders unequipped with protective gear. Those interested in viewing the training should do so from a safe area established on the north side of Michigan Street.
