Prep tennis: Negaunee blanks Gwinn

GWINN – Raising its season record to 5-0, the Negaunee High School girls tennis team breezed to an 8-0 victory over host Gwinn on Tuesday.

Allison Carlson led the way at No. 1 singles, as she dropped Brooke Luokkala, 6-0, 6-0.

Abbi Kill at No. 2, Angie Ring at No. 3 and Dana DeBretto (by default) at No. 4 also recorded singles wins for Negaunee.

At No. 1 doubles, the Miners’ Amanda Washnock and Jessa Johnson dumped Nastya Nikulina and Payton Luokkala, 6-1, 6-1.

Also claiming doubles wins for NHS were Kylee Taavola and Hanna Kantola at No. 2, Elly Kantola and Lauren Anderson at No. 3, and April Walimaa and Kassy Harsila at No. 4.

“April and Kassy played well,” NHS head coach Kyle Saari said. “They should turn into a good No. 4 (doubles tandem) for us.”
