Prep volleyball: Execution lets Negaunee down against Escanaba

NEGAUNEE – A strong defense couldn’t carry the Negaunee High School girls volleyball team to victory Tuesday night.

The Miners of head coach Annette Gleason dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Escanaba to fall to 1-1 on the season.

“We had real good defense,” Gleason said, “but just couldn’t execute well. We made serving errors and serve receive errors.”

Rosalie Anderson led Negaunee with 11 kills and two aces.

“She played well all around,” Gleason said, noting the senior added a team-high six digs. “She and her sister, Adena, played some good defense in the back row.”

BreAnna Leanes posted five aces for the Miners and Jada Johnson collected nine assists.
