Josephine M. Pellonpaa

NEGAUNEE, MI. – Josephine Mary Pellonpaa, 91, a former Negaunee and Ishpeming resident died at 12:10 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she had resided since 2006.

After a long and tested journey through life’s challenging times, Josie has gone to meet her maker and enter into the everlasting happiness with Jesus Christ. She was a devoted Catholic and taught her children respect and love for one another.

Josie was born March 17, 1922 in Negaunee to Antonio and Maria (Fantoni) Guizzetti and was a graduate of Negaunee St. Paul High School, Class of 1940. She worked at the H.W. Gossard Co. and at Gurchinoff’s Restaurant for 30 years. She lived in the Twin Cities in Minnesota from 1968-1990 where she sold Electrolux products and provided housekeeping, cooking, and personal services for several families.

Mrs. Pellonpaa was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, and had been a member of St. John the Evangelist Church while living in Ishpeming. She was a member of the Negaunee-Ishpeming American Legion Auxiliary, and bowled in the women’s bowling league for many years. She most enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are four children: Mary (Michael) Orr of Venice, FL, Patricia (Dennis) Sippola of Ishpeming Township, Anthony (Lisa) Pellonpaa of Ishpeming, Catherine Cardoni of Farmington Hills, ten grandchildren: Anthony & Brian Orr, Michelle Gomez, Julie, Jeff, and Scott Sippola, Christopher (Melissa) Cardoni, Ryan (Jodi) Cardoni, Krista and Toni Pellonpaa, 8 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Barbara Guizzetti of St. Paul, MN, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Albert Guizzetti.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 4th at St. Paul Catholic Church in Negaunee with Rev. Greg Heikkila officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am at the church on Wednesday. Mrs. Pellonpaa’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
