Increased police patrols continue
MARQUETTE – Stepped up drunk driving patrols and seat belt enforcement that began earlier this month will continue through the heavily traveled Labor Day weekend in 26 counties, including four in the Upper Peninsula.
Extra patrols in the U.P. are being done in Marquette, Chippewa, Delta, and Houghton counties.
During last year’s campaign, officers made about 350 drunk driving arrests and issued more than 4,500 seat belt citations across the state.
“Eight people died in crashes during last year’s Labor Day weekend. Four deaths involved alcohol and four vehicle occupants killed were not buckled up,” Michael L. Prince, director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, said in a press release.
