Genord, Christian fire top scores at Wawonowin
CHAMPION – Wawonowin Country Club held its men’s and senior men’s championship flight qualifying on Saturday.
In the men’s championship flight, Sam Genord fired an even par 72 in the first leg of the 36-hole medal-play qualifier. Mark Clements and Scott Saari (both 73) trail by one stroke going into today’s final round.
The top 16 players will form the championship flight of the men’s club tournament, which will be held Labor Day weekend.
In the 18-hole senior men’s championship flight qualifier, Bob Christian earned medalist honors with a six-over par 78, edging the 79s posted by Dale Bayer and Mike Nelson 79. The first round of match play for the senior men’s champion flight begins today at 11 a.m.

MGC tees off championship
MARQUETTE – The Marquette Golf Club Men’s Championship began Saturday with the first of two qualifying rounds to reach match play on Labor Day weekend. Only 15 of the 39 who teed off Saturday advance. Play resumes today at 8:40 a.m. on Greywalls.
Chad Wester posted the low score of the day with a 73, followed by Chris Rhoades (76), K.C. Bjorne (77), Mike Marietta (77), Dan Viitala (78), Dennis Hruska (78), Mike Parks (79), Tom Robinson (79) and Aaron Swanson (79).
Defending champion Mike Devine is exempt from qualifying
