Barbara A. Crabb

ISHPEMING, Mich. – Barbara A. Crabb, age 84, longtime resident of 824 Maurice St., Ishpeming, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Mather Nursing Center where she had resided for the past three years.

Barbara was born on September 6, 1928 in Ishpeming the daughter of Albert and Hulda (Lind) Rickstadt and was a lifelong Ishpeming resident. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1946. She married John A. “Jack” Crabb and together they raised their family in Ishpeming. Barb worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in Ishpeming as a telephone operator and plant chief’s clerk, and in Marquette as secretary to the supervising foreman and secretary to the District Dept. Head, retiring in 1983 with nearly 37 years of service.

Barbara worked at Bethany Lutheran Church as a secretary for 2 years. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church where she had been an active member, singing in the church choir, was involved with the Bethany Seniors, Quilters of Bethany, and served on the board in Social Ministry, Stewardship, Worship & Music. Barbara had also been active in the Telephone Pioneers, Ishpeming Telephone Belles, Vasa Lodge and the Ishpeming Coral Club for many years.

Survivors include 3 daughters Kathy (Greg) Stampee of Ishpeming, Lynn Dalton of Ishpeming and Jacqueline Altobello of Albuquerque, NM, 2 grandchildren Alicia and Michael Stampee, a sister-in-law Rose Rickstadt, nephews Bruce (Ann) Kelly, Albert (Donna) Rickstadt and David (Faye) Rickstadt and nieces Frances (Doug) Witt, Kris (Jon) Blackburn, Jill (Don) Brink, Gail (Jack) Gionone, along with numerous great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John A. Crabb in 1997, a sister Gladys Kelly and 3 brothers Leo, Eric and Robert Rickstadt, Nephews Roger, James and Glenn Kelly, Gary, Ronald and Emanual Rickstadt.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Warren Geier to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church in Barbara’s memory.
