Car-chase suspect faces 3 charges

MARQUETTE – A 37-year-old Wisconsin man has been arraigned on several charges stemming from a car chase on Marquette County Road 550 early Saturday morning.

Scott Michael Upson of Green Bay, Wis., was arraigned Monday in Marquette County District Court Monday on charges of operating while intoxicated, attempted resisting and obstructing a police officer and driving with a suspended license, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Upson, who is scheduled to appear in court at 3 p.m. Aug. 30 for a preliminary examination, remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail in lieu of a 10 percent of $25,000 bond.

Police said at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, a deputy attempted to stop a 2004 Toyota Highlander driven by Upson on 550 near Sugarloaf Mountain.

Police said the vehicle initially stopped but then fled north. A pursuit ensued, ending at the entrance to Wetmore Pond.

Several patrol cars boxed the Highlander in and police said Upson would not follow police orders to shut the vehicle off and exit it.

Police said a Taser was deployed and Upson was removed from the vehicle and arrested.
