Anne M. Burke

ISHPEMING, MI. – Anne M. Burke, age 66, of 305 Oak St., Ishpeming went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at her home in Ishpeming, following a courageous hard fought battle with cancer and while under the loving care of her family and the Lake Superior Hospice.

Anne was born April 15, 1947 the daughter of the late Lawrence and Clara (Valela) Joseph. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1965. Anne was united in marriage on October 16, 1965 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church to Richard A. Burke. She had been the bakery manager at Joseph’s Supervalu for 20 years and then worked at Northern Michigan University for 15 years in the Food Service Dept.

Anne was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and enjoyed her “Book Club”. Anne thoroughly enjoyed her family, lovingly attending the countless events of her children and grandchildren throughout the years, along with the many family gatherings held at her home. Spending time with her grandchildren was most precious to Anne and many times she would set up various craft projects for them to do. She also enjoyed gardening and watching the birds.

Survivors include her husband Richard “Dick” Burke, 5 children, including 4 sons John (Susan) Burke, Rich (Tonya) Burke, Jim (Robyn) Burke and Mark (Kristine) Burke all of Ishpeming and a daughter Amy (Donald) Bone of Ishpeming, 2 brothers Nick (Judy) Joseph of Ishpeming and Larry (Violet) Joseph of Las Vegas, NV, 5 sisters Rosemary (Joe) Kozup of Hagerstown, MD, Patricia (Jim) Maki, Susie (Paul) Belpedio, Julie (Rich) Anderson and Margaret (Mike) Beauchamp all of Ishpeming, 13 grandchildren Cassie (Adam) Sundberg, Derrick (Danielle) Burke, Brent (Kylee) Burke, Courtney Burke, Karli Burke, Abigail Burke, Trevor Burke, Ethan Burke, Marina Nault, Lyla Burke, Jayna Burke, Mason Burke and Nathan Bone, 4 great grandchildren Tessa Burke, Lydia Burke, Talen Burke and Ansley Sundberg, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends Bob and Nancy McCullough of Ishpeming.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew and Godson Brian Joseph.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 until 7 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be held at 7:00pm. The family will again greet relatives and friends from 10 11am on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the K-D Hall at the church.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Derrick Burke, Brent Burke, Trevor Burke, Ethan Burke, Adam Sundberg and Cody Harju.
