Longtime Negaunee hockey coach dies

NEGAUNEE – A longtime hockey coach in Negaunee, which included a four-year tenure as head coach of the high school team, died Monday morning at Marquette General Hospital.

Tim Gannon, 55, coached the Miners varsity from 2004-08 and compiled a record of 39-53-3. He also coached for a number of years in Negaunee’s Iron Range Hockey Association house leagues.

“Tim was a very, very good person,” said Negaunee High School Principal Mark Marana, who was athletic director at the school during Gannon’s years as hockey coach there.

Visitation at the Fassbender Funeral Home in Marquette will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, while a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette at 10 a.m. Friday, according to a death notice in Tuesday’s Mining Journal.
