Annual Rock, Mineral Show set in Copper Country

HOUGHTON – The Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club is holding its annual Gem and Mineral Show this weekend.

The show got under way Friday and continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Houghton Elementary School. Admission is free, and there will be door prizes and grab bags of minerals for children.

“The club has been running the show for many years. It is a source of geological and mineralogical goods for the Copper Country, as well as raising funds for club operations,” club President Norm Gruber said.

This year will feature a display of a cast of a Tyrannosaurus rex skull, a full-size 5-foot-long replica of an actual skeleton.

Dealer offerings at the show will include local and world-wide minerals, wire wrap and other jewelry, polished lapidary material, faceted gems, fossils and historical stock certificates and papers.

The Rock and Mineral Club will have an ongoing silent auction of minerals and other materials.

It will also be selling magazines from the rock and mineral field and other educational items.
