Bell earns high surgery rating

ISHPEMING – Consumer Reports has published information stating Bell Hospital is one of seven healthcare facilities in Michigan to receive its highest marks for being a top surgery provider.

Hospital officials said the recognition came shortly after Bell opened a fourth operating room, according to a news release.

“Our surgical volumes have been increasing, due in large part to the talented and caring providers and staff serving our patients,” Bell CEO Floyd Bounds said in the news release.

Using data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Michigan Department of Health, and the American Hospital Association, a five-level ranking system was developed to review complications in surgeries or longer-than-expected hospital stays following common surgeries, Bell officials said.

Other Michigan hospitals ranked high by Consumer Reports included Beaumont Hospital in Troy, St. Joseph Livingston in Howell and Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming.

Officials said Bell Hospital offers a variety of inpatient and outpatient services that include general surgery, along with orthopedic, gynecological, ophthalmologic, urologic, plastic and oral surgical services.

In addition, Bell’s Breast Center has been named a Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology and recently received a national accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

“With exceptional quality and safety, including record low infection rates and patient satisfaction scores that are among the best in the nation, Bell Hospital is pleased to be recognized by Consumer Reports as a top provider of surgical services in Michigan,” the Bell news release stated.
