Alger County Fair runs Friday through Sunday
CHATHAM – Today is entry day for the Alger County Fair, which will open Friday morning and run through Sunday at the Rock River Township Park in Chatham.
The three-day fair opens to the public at 9 a.m. Friday and closes at 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission to the fair is $5 for adults, for all three days; $3 for children, for all three days; $2 daily for adults, 13 years old and older; $1 daily for children, 6-12 years old; and free for children ages 5 and under.
Early registration was held Wednesday. Today, entries will be taken from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with rabbit and poultry entries with free pullorum testing from 3 to 5 p.m.
Some of the highlights of events scheduled include:
– Friday: 9 a.m., fair opens, youth and open livestock judging and showing begins with swine; 10 a.m., goats and sheep; 11 a.m. dairy cattle; noon, beef cattle and horse speed events; 5:30 p.m., Grandparent of the Year Competition; 6 p.m., Little Miss Alger County Competition ($5 contestant entry fee).
Saturday: 8:30 a.m., fair opens; 9 a.m., antique tractor show begins; 10 a.m., rabbit and poultry judging, Super Yooper Dog Challenge; and 4-H activities in the Youth Building until 4 p.m.; 11 a.m., miniature horse show; 12:30 p.m., Find Farmer Fred; 2 p.m., Chatham Homecoming Parade; 3 p.m., antique tractor pull and 4-H dog agility demonstration; 3:30 p.m., annual pig roast (adults $7, 12 and younger $5 and seniors, $6 with limit of 300 tickets to be sold); 4 p.m., team penning; 7:30 p.m., homecoming queen crowning with dance to follow.
Sunday: 8 a.m., fair opens; 9 a.m., horse show pleasure class; 10 a.m., classic car display begins; 11:30 a.m., homecoming chicken barbecue; 1 p.m., firefighter contest; 3 p.m., People’s Choice Award Classic Cars and greased pig contest; 5 p.m., fair closes.
