June Bartlett Homeister

June B. Homeister died in Munising, Michigan on July 20, 2013 at the age of 88.
Since retirement, June and her husband, Owen (1925 2010), lived in Grand Marais, Michigan, Green Valley, Arizona and most recently, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Born in Newfane, New York to James E. and Lola Bartlett, June earned her B.A. degree from Miami University of Ohio in 1947. After teaching for a number of years in public schools in Mason and Midland, Michigan, June earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1969. She pursued her career as a school social worker in Midland from 1968 to 1985.
June was an active member of the international service organization P.E.O. and the American Association of University Women.
June approached life with unabashed enthusiasm, loved to travel and enjoyed the t heater, arts and music. She sang for many years in the Green Valley Community Church choir and served as an elected member of the Board of Directors of Green Valley Recreational Association, Inc. After her retirement she explored many corners of the United States and Canada in her VW camper van.
June is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Owen E. Homeister, and survived by her daughters Layne Kottmeier (Thomas) of Littleton, Colorado, Heidi Homeister (Lou Lundquist) of Grand Marais, Michigan and Paige Horvath (Steve) of Negaunee, Michigan.
A graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais Michigan on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 3:30 in the afternoon. Following the service there will be a celebration of June’s life at the Homeister residence on Campbell St. in Grand Marais. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left in care of the Alger County Animal Shelter, 510 E. Munising Ave., Munising, MI 49862.
