Northstars split Wishigan games
NEGAUNEE – The Tri-City Northstars split a pair of games at home on Sunday against the Menominee Storm to move its record to 7-5 overall, 5-4 in the Wishigan League.
The Negaunee-based team’s next games are a doubleheader at the reigning Wishigan champion Marinette, Wis., Red Birds at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Northstars opened with a 4-2 victory in Game 1 as pitcher Adam Gannon went the distance for the win, striking out six while allowing five hits and three walks.
Teammates James Larsen II and Spencer Larson each went 2 for 3 as Larsen hit a homer and scored twice and Larson collected an RBI. Jake Dault had a hit in his only official at-bat, walking twice and knocking in two runs.
Tri-City built a 4-0 lead with one run in the first, two in the third and one in the fifth.
In Game 2, Menominee won 8-2 as Dault started and went 4 innings before Gannon finished the final 2 innings. Dault allowed four runs on seven hits and five walks while fanning four. Gannon also gave up four runs, though just two were earned.
Larsen put the Northstars up 1-0 in the third, scoring on an errant throw after a steal of third base.
But Menominee scored eight straight, four coming in the fifth, to take control. Tri-City’s other run came in the bottom of the seventh when Andrew Christiansen scored on Eric Beauchamp’s single.
Larsen again was 2 for 3, while Zach Sorelle doubled and Gannon singled.
