Marquette Rotary Club presents scholarships to area students
Recipients of Marquette Rotary Club scholarships were honored and checks presented recently. Three vocational scholarships for $500, the Marquette Rotary Club Scholarship to a student attending an Upper Peninsula college for $2,000 the first year and $1,000 for succeeding years if eligibility is maintained, and one continuing grant were presented by Rotarian Deborah Veiht, shown at right. Scholarship recipients shown, from left, include Vocational Scholarship recipients Taylor Ann Hendrickson, Willa Cisluycis and Becky Croshere; Marquette Rotary Club Scholarship recipient Leighton Locke; and Continuing Marquette Club Scholarship Ryan Brown. Hendrickson is the daughter of Julene Thomas and plans are to attend a college where she could continue her interest in cheerleading and prepare for a career as an ultrasound technician or cosmetologist. Cisluycis is the daughter of Jane Cisluycis and will be attending Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City this fall in its culinary arts program. Croschere is the granddaughter of Sue Croschere and plans to attend Northern Michigan University to study cosmetology and business. Locke, the son of David and Rachel Locke, plans to attend NMU this fall then transfer to Michigan Tech University for a degree in engineering. Brown is a senior at NMU majoring in mathematics who has maintained his eligibility for all four years.
