Johnson wins MDOT award

NEGAUNEE – Cory Johnson of Negaunee has received the 2013 Michigan Department of Transportation Director’s Award – the department’s highest honor for outstanding service.

MDOT established the annual awards more than 20 years ago to recognize employees who exhibit leadership and exemplary public service.

Johnson was recognized in the professional category. He provides technical and programming support for the Michigan Geographic Framework program.

He has built partnerships across state agencies that had not previously existed. Johnson works with other state agencies, including the Department of Technology, Management and Budget and Center for Shared Solutions, and with Michigan State University, vendors and others to ensure that department and local data can be used with Framework.

He is a graduate of Northern Michigan University.

The Director’s Award program represents the various work categories within the department, representing the respective job responsibilities and levels.

While MDOT employees nominate their peers, committees comprised of workers from each category make the final recommendations to the department.
