Melvin R. Daley
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Melvin R. Daley, 72, of Marquette, died Saturday afternoon, July 6, 2013, at his home in the presence of his loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Melvin was born on January 31, 1941 at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the late Renaldo and Alice (Streeter) Daley. He was a 1959 graduate of Sault Ste. Marie High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member for many years of IBEW Local #1251 and later for Local #1070 until his retirement.
Melvin became a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in 1981 for St. Michael’s Conference. He later transferred to St. Peter’s Conference serving as both conference and district president. He was also very supportive of his wife, Judi, in her Vincentian journey. Mel served as spiritual advisor for the conference up until a couple of months ago. He was a member of St. Peter Cathedral.
Mel’s greatest legacy was the mentoring he gave to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Judi Daley, whom he married on November 27, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie; two children, Melynda Daley and Brent (Alicia) Daley, both of Marquette; four grandchildren, Benjamin Daley, Jayne Daley, Kellan Duckworth, and Norah Daley; siblings, Patricia (Jim) Klieman of Lower Michigan, Richard (Cindy) Daley of Sault Ste. Marie, Debbie (Kurt) Edwards of Kentucky, David (Terri) Daley of Sault Ste. Marie, and Michael (Connie) Daley of California; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a brother, Gerald Daley and a special aunt, Bea Rembault.
Friends may call at the Bishop’s Room of St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the cathedral at 4 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Monsignor Michael Steber officiating. A dinner will be served in the church hall immediately following the Mass. Burial will take place in Northland Chapel Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Burke, Dennis “Mike” Carter, John Gunville, Tom Hogan, and John Keto.
