2 girls injured in ATV crash
PALMER – Two 13-year-old girls suffered injuries Monday when the all-terrain vehicle they were riding struck an embankment and then rolled on top of them in Palmer.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office did not release the names of those involved.
Police said the driver and passenger were taken to Marquette General Hospital by EMS personnel and later released to their parents. The driver, a Palmer girl, was treated for injuries to her tailbone, back and knee. Police said the passenger, an Ishpeming girl, suffered a minor neck injury.
Deputies were dispatched at about 6:45 p.m. to the crash, which occurred along a power line just north of Kirkpatrick Avenue in Palmer.
The ATV was westbound on the power line when, according to the driver, high grass kept her from seeing an embankment on the trail. The ATV struck the embankment and then rolled over on top of the two girls, police said.
The driver’s father was at the scene and was able to lift the ATV off the girls and call 911.
Deputies were assisted by Richmond Township EMS and Fire 181 and Bell Memorial EMS 141.
