Roger Lee Raymond Corinth

GWINN, Mich. – Roger Lee Raymond Corinth, 84, of Gwinn, died Monday morning, July 1, 2013, at the Norlite Nursing Center in the care of Lake Superior Hospice.

Roger was born November 30, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Charles Louis and Mae (Hahn) Corinth. He was a 1947 graduate of Taft High School.

Following his graduation, Roger was employed as an iron worker. Drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he served from 1950 1952 with the Army Corp of Engineers.

After his discharge from the Army, Roger attended and later graduated from the University of Illinois, receiving both a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Hydraulics. He later obtained his Professional Engineering License.

He was employed at Pittsburgh / Des Moines Steel Company for 24 years. Following his retirement, Roger continued as a consultant and served as a RETAP analyst (Retired Engineer Technical Assistance Program).

He was a member of the Gwinn Lions Club, the Forsyth Singers, Marquette Yacht Club, American Canoe Association, and VFW Post #5670 in Gwinn.

His hobbies included ice skating, skiing, and sailing. He designed, built and raced sailing canoes. Even after his retirement Roger was always creating and re-designing.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, traveling, and vacationing along the Michigan lake shores.

Roger is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Beverly L. Erlandson, whom he married on December 27, 1958 in Wilmington, Illinois; three children, Rebecca (Don) Perkins of Denver, CO, Russell (Caryn) Corinth of Newberry, MI, and Steven Corinth of Denver; two granddaughters, Eryn Lorraine Corinth and Carlee Ann Corinth.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Gwinn United Methodist Church. Services will follow in the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Geri Hamlen officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church hall.
