American closing; Household Appliance, Art Van moving in
MARQUETTE – An Art Van Furniture store will be coming to Marquette this fall.
According to a company news release issued Friday, the Michigan-based retailer has signed an agreement with Steven Anderson and Jeff Palomaki – owners of Marquette’s Household Appliance – and the new combination store will replace American TV, Appliance and Furniture at 2873 U.S. 41. American representatives announced recently that the current store would close in mid-July.
American, headquartered in Madison, Wis., has 10 other outlets in the Midwest.
The new Art Van Furniture & Household Appliance franchise store will feature 50,000 square feet of furniture, appliances and electronics. Officials estimate they will hire 15 new employees for the store.
“Our family has been in the retail business in the Marquette area since 1971. We know our customers and interact with them regularly in the store and around town,” Anderson said in a written statement announcing the move. “This extraordinary opportunity to partner with the largest furniture retailer in the Midwest will help us enhance customer service and the selection of merchandise available to families in our community.”
The new store is set to open in November, and Household Appliance – currently located at 2152 U.S. 41 – will maintain normal business hours until then.
“We are excited to partner with Steve and Jeff and bring Art Van Furniture to the U.P.” said Art Van Elslander, the founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. “By joining Art Van Furniture with Household Appliance we continue to strengthen our commitment to this great state of Michigan.”
Art Van, founded in 1959, is Michigan’s largest furniture retailer and is the country’s largest independent furniture retailer. Art Van is headquartered in downstate Warren.
