PWPL saluted

The members of the National Alliance on Mental Illness-Alger/Marquette would like to acknowledge the wonderful contribution that the leadership and staff of the Peter White Public Library have made toward educating the community about mental illness.

For the fifth year the library offered “Your Mind Matters,” a month-long array of programs during Mental Health Awareness month in May. Its goal is to “raise awareness of mental health issues, highlight community resources, reduce the stigma of mental illness, and promote the importance of mental wellness for all.”

Margaret Boyle and her assistant and other staff members worked with Pathways Community Health, Marquette General Hospital, Great Lakes Recovery and other service providers to have presentations by psychiatrists, clinical social workers, and others with specialized expertise to offer informal presentations at “lunch and learn” gatherings and evening talks.

Movies relating to mental illness were shown and facilitated by NAMI members, and a book discussion was led by a Northcare staff person. We are grateful to all those who willingly donated their time and expertise to raise awareness and to support those in our community who are coping with the challenges associated with mental illness.

Thank you PWPL. We are fortunate to have this amazing library in our community.
