mBank wins statewide honor

MANISTIQUE – mBank has been named the 2012 Community Lender of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Michigan District Office.

“As a community bank operating in many different markets within the state, we understand that these types of loans allow small companies to compete and procure the capital needed to expand, leading to increased opportunities for new jobs,” said Kelly George, President and Chief Executive Officer, mBank.

The award, which mBank also received in 2010, is presented to a lender that has displayed an ongoing commitment to supporting the growth and expansion of small businesses in the community. Criteria includes, total volume, new market activity, and comparison with historical performance. The Small Business Administration also places emphasis on selecting a lender who has made an impact in its communities through the use of SBA loan programs.

“SBA’s Community Lender of the Year Award recognizes the most outstanding community

lender that supports their local small businesses using SBA loans,” said SBA Michigan District

Director Gerald Moore. “Choosing the winner of this award is always very difficult because

Michigan’s community lenders are leaders in supporting their small business customers. As the

leading SBA lender in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, mBank was chosen because of its

commitment and creativity in supporting small businesses in its community. mBank exemplifies

what a community bank should be.”
