Robert P. Maki
NEGAUNEE – Robert P. “Boobsey” Maki, 86, of 104 Malton Road, Negaunee and formerly of Ishpeming and L’Anse, died at 5:00 PM on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the day.
Robert was born March 29, 1927 in Ishpeming to Frederick and L. Susan (Murtonen) Maki, was a graduate of Ishpeming High School, Class of 1945 and was a proud member of the Hematite football team.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWll, having served in the European Theater of operations. Following his service to his country he attended a Chicago technical college for 2 years and worked for The Upper Peninsula Power Company for 32 years, retiring as the plant supervisor in L’Anse in 1988.
He lived in L’Anse from 1970-1994 before returning to this area. He and his wife spent winters in Largo, FL for a number of years.
Bob was a former member of the American Legion, the L’Anse Elks, and the Wawonowin Country Club. He was an avid golfer, Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed archery and hunting, and in his younger years was a talented water skier.
Surviving are three daughters: Diane (Jeffrey) Habel of Cave Creek, AZ, Gail (David) Wilson of Scottsdale, AZ, Teal (Mike) Hersker of Fountain Hills, AZ, 5 grandchildren: Brynn (Cory) Willoughby, Jaren Habel, Cody Wilson, Bailey (Michael) Collins, Logan Wilson, 3 step-sons: William Racine of Lansing, Robert (Darlene) Racine of Ishpeming, Randy Racine of Negaunee, 2 step grandchildren: Paul (Jessica) Racine, Jessie Racine, 2 step great grandchildren, a brother, Elliott Maki of North Olmstead, OH, his former wife, Mary Jane (Hughes) Coffee of Fountain Hills, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen (Roberts) in 2004, and a sister Evelyn Maki.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 2nd at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. Entombment will be in the Northland Chapel Gardens Mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00AM at the funeral home on Tuesday.
