Clayton J. Anderson Sr.

HUMBOLDT TWP. – Clayton J. Anderson Sr., age 86, former Humboldt Twp resident passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of his family.

Clayton was born January 18, 1927 in Muskegon, MI the son of the late John L. and Mayme S. (Mackey) Anderson. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Region, an was proud to serve his country in many ways. Following the War, Clayton returned to the Upper Peninsula and was employed by the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co., working as an electrician at the Mather B, Humboldt and retired from the Empire Mine after 37 years with the Company. Clayton was a member of the United Steelworkers of America, Local #4950 where he had served as President. Clayton was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Greenwood American Legion Post. He had served on the Board of Commissioners for Marquette Co. for 15 years. Clayton had also served on the Marquette Co. Health Dept. Board, where he had been the Chairman, along with serving as a delegate for the Democratic Party in Marquette Co.

Survivors include five children Judith (Joseph) Helwig of White House, TN, Clayton J. (Sunny) Anderson Jr. of Diorite Loc., Paul R. (Towanda) Anderson of Naples, Fl, Barbara (James) Revello of Ishpeming, and Karen (Dennis) Howe of Diorite Loc., a brother Clyde R. Anderson of Humboldt, his grandchildren and great grandchildren David and Jaqueline Helwig, Sara (Kurt) Pietro and their children Holly and Natalie; Dawn Varti and her children Isaac, Addy and Katie; along with Carl Anderson Jr.; Christopher Anderson and his children Valentino, Antonio and Britta; Towanda (Clayton) Smith and their children Amber & Isaiah; Mark (Christina) Anderson and their daughter Grace; Janet (Brad) Blake and their children Trevor and Raena; Kristine (Mark) Burke and their children Marina, Lyla, Jayna and Mason; Peter Revello and his daughter Isabella; Paul (Shannon) Revello and their children Miles and Weston; Melanie Christiansen; Anne (David) Howe and their daughter Rosa; Ryan (Heather) Howe and their son Clayton; and Craig Howe, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Clayton was preceded in death by his wife Martha (Basham) Anderson in 2000, a daughter Mary Christiansen in 2010, a grandson Carl E. Anderson, along with two brothers Carl E. and Clarence Anderson.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am 11:00am on Monday July 1, 2013 at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am on Monday at the church with Pastor Carole Neitzel to officiate. Interment will take place at the Humboldt Twp. Cemetery. Military Honors will take place at the conclusion of the services at the church. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
