James A. Bylski

MARQUETTE, Mich. – James A. Bylski, age 87, of Marquette, entered eternal life Friday, June 21, 2013, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, in the loving care of his family and the caregivers of Lake Superior Hospice.

Born March 16, 1926, in Detroit, to Anthony and Ethel (Ramsey) Bylski, Jim was raised in the Detroit area, Following schooling, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps, spending his service years stationed in Iwo Jima and Japan.

Following his honorable discharge, he moved back to the Detroit area. He was married to Beverly Gauslin and together the couple established their home in the suburb of Hazel Park and began raising a family. Jim began his working career with the Postal Service in Hazel Park, working for almost 40 years before retiring in 1984. In his spare time, James loved being outdoors and spending lots of time fishing and bird hunting.

He was always active and was a real handy man, fixing things in and around the house from record players to lawnmowers and shoes.

Jim and Beverly moved to Marquette in the fall of 2010 residing at Lost Creek. They played an active role in helping raise their grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly; his daughter, Nancy (Mark) Dougherty of Marquette and two sons, Douglas (Julie) Bylski of Rockford, MI and Kenneth Bylski of Hazel Park, MI; his grandchildren, Elaine Dougherty, Holly (Scott) Kremers, Kelly (Adam) Ward, Bryan Bylski, Jamie Bylski, Joshua Bylski, Matthew Bylski; his great-grandchildren, Emma Ward and Elle Ward; a sister-in-law, Donna Bylski; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his five siblings.

A memorial service for James will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
