Wayne D. Brown

SKANDIA, MI. – Wayne D. Brown, age 82, of Skandia, entered eternal life Thursday morning, June 20, 2013, at his home, in the loving care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice.

Born December 5, 1930 in Emmett Township of Calhoun County, a son of Claude and Muriel (Wright) Brown, Wayne was raised in Battle Creek.

Employment brought Wayne to the Harvey area in 1978, where he worked as an iron worker at the Tilden Mine. In 1987, he began construction on his current home in Skandia, enjoying all that his 80 acres had to offer. He retired in 1989. Wayne was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Army and was a member of Iron Workers Local 340 of Battle Creek.

Wayne was an avid Detroit Lions Football and Tiger Baseball fan, enjoyed hobby farming and old time country music.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Mildred (Shaw) Brown; his daughters, Robbin (Brian) Loher, Julie (Rod) Morgan, Sandy (Donny) Ollila, Rose (Duane) Carlson, and Laura (Leroy) Lancour; sons; Bruce (Tammy) Washburn and Tim Washburn; grandchildren, Sara (Ted) Everingham, Jenny Loher, Shannon (Scott) Heikkila, Kirstin (Gregg) Bonanni, Chad Ollila, Chelsea Carlson, Amanda Lukkonen, Tony Washburn, Butchie and Katie Lancour; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Adam Heikkila, Alyssa and Gavin Bonanni, Gabriel and Da’veigh Carlson, Landon Lukkonen, Trinity Paris, Caiden Lancour; his sisters, Maxine Brown, Arlene (Bob) Moore, and Ardith Rastoskey; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a step-son, Tony Washburn; grandson, Ben Carlson; sister, Margaret and husband, Glenn Jessup; brothers, Maynard and Jerry Brown; and brother-in-law, Sam Rastoskey.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 25, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday afternoon with Chuck Tooman, Lake Superior Hospice chaplain, officiating.

Burial will be made in the West Branch Township Cemetery at 5:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Donny and Chad Ollila, Duane Carlson, Bruce Washburn, Gary Cattron, Leroy and Butch Lancour and John Maki. A reception will follow at the West Branch Township Hall.
