School board fills vacant seat
GWINN – The Gwinn school board on Tuesday appointed Gwinn resident Joe Boogren to fill an open seat on the board.
The seat opened following the death earlier this month of board member Ruth Spade.
According to Trustee Bill Nordeen, Boogren will remain on the board until the November 2014 election, at which time four seats will be up for election.
Nordeen said Boogren was chosen from a pool of three applicants, which included Gwinn resident A.J. Filizetti and K.I. Sawyer resident Dale Throenle.
The board will meet again Friday evening to interview a candidate to take over as interim superintendent, following the resignation of current Superintendent Kim Tufnell, which is effective June 30.
Nordeen said the board has received one application from Ishpeming Superintendent Stephen Piereson, who’s leaving the district June 30.
