Board to discuss Martin Lake levels
MARQUETTE – The Marquette County Board is expected to get an update on the level of Martin Lake when the panel meets Tuesday night in regular session in Marquette.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 231 of the Henry Skewis Annex to the Marquette County Courthouse, located at 234 W. Baraga Ave.
The county board had agreed to revisit the question in April on whether the level of Martin Lake at K.I. Sawyer had rebounded after pumping from two wells nearby was decreased significantly last fall.
Property owners at the lake have been concerned about low lake levels over the past few years on Martin, Sporley and other lakes.
Many are convinced the decrease can be blamed on the pumping from the wells.
County and state officials contend several other natural factors could also affect the lake levels. With a late spring, the board decided to postpone an assessment and wait until this month to discuss the current lake levels with residents.
Some additional agenda items include an annual report from the Marquette County Land Bank Authority, an off-road vehicle recommendation, appointments to the Solid Waste Management Authority and a resolution requesting full state revenue sharing funding.
