ISHPEMING – The Ishpeming Area Historical Society has opened an offsite, climate-controlled archive space at the Pioneer Square, 308 Cleveland Ave. The donated space will allow room to catalog and organize items for research, and to store delicate artifacts such as clothing, newspapers and photos.

Office hours will be announced at a later date.

The Ishpeming Historical Society Museum is located inside the Cliff’s Shaft Mine Museum and will be opening for the season on June 18. Tours include the Mine Shaft Museum, the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Room, and the Ishpeming Area Historical Society Museum. The cost is $9 for adults, but is free with a current paid membership. There are new displays in the museum. The self-led tour contains interesting facts about the people, clubs, organizations, businesses and favorite pastimes of Ishpeming’s earlier citizens.

The Society’s Annual Historic Home Tour will be held June 30. This year will include three homes, a former business and its vehicle from the 1930s, a historic place and gardens.

Tickets will be available at area businesses one week prior to the tour.
