Ralph Victor Kivi
GWINN, Mich. – Ralph Victor Kivi, age 77, of 143 E. Blueberry Street, Gwinn, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, at his home.
Ralph was born July 20, 1935 in Marquette, a son of Victor A. and Mamie E. (Gustafson) Kivi. He was a 1953 graduate of the Graveraet High School and soon after joined the US Navy, serving four years near the end of the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, Ralph worked for the Department of Defense in Australia and then Washington, D.C. He later began an over 30 year career as a paralegal with a Washington, D.C. legal firm, retiring and moving back to Gwinn in 1997. Ralph was an accomplished bridge player, achieving Masterpoints bridge player status. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the game and hated to lose, which was a rarity. In addition to a good game of bridge, Ralph loved to travel and visit new places. During his time in Washington, D.C., he not only enjoyed the historical surroundings, but found pleasure in walking around the city and ice skating in the winter. Living in Gwinn afforded him the opportunity to pick blueberries, another favorite pastime. Ralph was known to be good natured, kind, generous, and a lover of animals, especially his cats.
Ralph is survived by his siblings, Duane Kivi, Len (Judy) Kivi, and Jerry (Pauline) Kivi all of Harvey, Kathy (Allen) Garrow of Gwinn, and Garry (Donna) Kivi of Woodbridge, VA; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by brothers, Roger and Stanley Kivi; sisters-in-law, Joan Kivi and Gloria Kivi.
Honoring Ralph’s request, no services will be scheduled. Burial will be made in the Park Cemetery.
